You in Five Acts

Updated: Jan 17, 2018

by Una La Marche

Joy is a ballet student who never slacks off when it comes to dancing or studying. Diego, a fellow ballet student, has a crush on Joy but is afraid of rejection. Ethan, an aspiring writer, has a crush on Liv but she's giving him mixed feelings, kissing him at a party but then acting luke-warm towards him. Liv wants to do whatever she can to make sure she’s cast in Ethan’s senior showcase play while she’s falling for the new boy on campus, Dave. All five seniors aspire to be the best at Manhattan’s Janus Academy, so they'll be recruited by talent agents.

Even though the story is told in the second person point-of-view which normally makes writing repetitive and tedious, Una La Marche not only makes it work, but she excels at it. Why would she chance it? As Diego points out, “...everybody is somebody else’s ‘you,’ right?” The conclusion is foreshadowed, but the well-developed characters, realistic teen dialog, and beautiful metaphors make this a page turner that is always en-pointe! Recommend this to fans of both romance and drama. Due to graphic language, this book may be more appropriate for older teens.
