We Are Okay

It's winter break of Marin's first year at college in New York City. All the other students have gone home, but Marin has no home to go to. Her beloved grandfather raised her in Santa Monica, but his sudden death leaves Marin both depressed and angry after she discovers her grandfather's hidden secret, a secret that involves her deceased mother. Having withdrawn from her friends and gone silent for several months, Marin is nervous when her best friend Mabel insists on coming to visit her in New York. She knows that Mabel will want to know why she switched her major, why she left for New York without saying good-bye, and why she ignored her texts and phone calls for months, but Marin isn't sure she can talk to her about what happened and what she's going through. We Are Okay is a beautifully-rendered coming-of-age story about loss and the power of friendship.
