Sunrise on the Reaping takes place twenty-four years before Katness left District 12 for the Hunger Games. It tells the story of her mentor Haymich Abernathy as he enters the games himself as a tribute. Due to an impromptu riot at the reaping ceremony and the love of his life being endangered, Haymich winds up competing in the quarter quell against 47 other tributes. In the capitol, he encounters characters familiar to fans of the original trilogy such as Plutarch Heavensbee, Effie Trinket, Beetee Latier, and the calculating President Snow, who seems to know much more about the people in District 12 than Haymitch would've thought. Haymitch finds himself not only forming alliances with fellow tributes but plotting to overthrow the games with the help of Beetee and his son who has been forced to play the games as a way to punish Beetee. The events of the novel, which are just as brutal and heart-wrenching as the original books, puts the Haymitch to the test as he works to incite a rebellion. Fans of the original books won't want to miss this prequel!
