Three Things I Know Are True

Liv's big brother, Jonah, is only seventeen when he accidentally shoots himself at his friend Clay's house. Now Jonah is completely incapacitated, hooked up to machines that keep him alive in a hospital bed at home. Liv and Jonah's mother, a widow, is angry and has decided to sue Clay's family while avoiding Jonah because she doesn't see her son anymore when she looks at him. Alternatively, Liv looks after Jonah whenever she's not at school and seems to know what he wants by the sounds he makes. She doesn't blame Clay's family because she knows how reckless Jonah could be, and she's determined to maintain her friendship with Clay, knowing that he's grieving as much as she is. Three Things I Know Are True is a beautiful novel-in-verse that gets to the heart of what it means to grieve and come to terms with a tragic accident, especially one involving a sibling.
