When Ossie Brown loses his chance to go to college on a basketball scholarship due to an injury, he feels like his whole world is shattered, that is, until he's encouraged to try for a covetted slot in his school's writing program. He's a natural at writing just as he is at basketball and becomes fast friends with two other students in the program, Naima and Luis.
