If you've ever read any books by Russell Freedman, you know he excels at providing highly interesting, concise historical accounts that draw in readers. He does this exceptionally well with The War to End All Wars: World War I. In it, he relates the events leading up to the war, the major battles, weapons, and outcomes, but what makes his account so engaging is the inclusion of first person accounts, maps, photos, and other primary source material. Those looking for a good overview of World War I and its long-term effects, would do well to pick up this outstanding work by Newberry Medal winner Russell Freedman.
