Helena was born in a shack in the isolated wilderness of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. It is only when she's twelve that she learns her father, the man who taught her how to snowshoe, track animals, and hunt, kidnapped her mother when she was only sixteen and has been holding her captive against her will for so many years. Helena and her mother escape and her father is sent to prison. Now that she's grown with a husband and two children of her own, her father has escaped after killing two guards, and she knows she's the only one who can possibly track him down and bring him to justice, but is she the hunter as she believes or the hunted? Karen Dionne weaves a suspenseful tale as she alternates between the present and the past, developing smart, interesting characters and an elaborate setting perfect for an fast-paced thriller.
