Matt Miller is going through a difficult time. His mother recently passed away from cancer, and his father has resorted to drinking again. Matt is about to apply for a job at the Cluck Bucket where he's noticed a beautiful young lady his age taking orders at the counter, but then he runs into Mr. Ray, a man from his neighborhood who offers Matt a job at his funeral home. Matt is reluctant to say yes since he's still grieving his mother's death, but because the pay is so good and Mr. Ray assures him he won't have to touch any dead people, Matt accepts the job. As a result, he ends up sitting in on quite a few funerals and witnessing others both grieve and celebrate their deceased loved ones. When he sees the beautiful girl from the Cluck Bucket speak at her grandmother's funeral, Matt realizes that she's stronger than he thought possible, and he's determined to discover the source of that strength. The Boy in the Black Suit by award-winning author Jason Reynolds is a touching novel with compelling characters and dialog that is difficult to put down!
