In this first book in the Point Last Seen duology by renowned suspense writer April Henry, friends Alexis, Nick, and Ruby have joined Portland's Search and Rescue (SAR) team. Ruby enjoys reading true crime books, Nick likes to be helpful, and Alexis joins to be with her friends but suddenly has a vested interest when her mentally ill mother goes missing. When the three teens go out with the SAR team to look for a young man with Autism, they come across a dead body which Ruby believes to be the victim of a serial killer. If she had any doubts, they quickly vanish when a third young woman is discovered dead. Because the women all have different backgrounds, however, the lead detective refuses to listen, believing they are the work of different killers. Ruby isn't satisfied and becomes determined to discover who is responsible, but she'll need her friends' help.
