During World War II, when the Allies realized that Germans in occupied Norway were creating so-called "heavy water" for use in Atomic bombs, a group of Norwegian commandos trained briefly before undertaking a desperate operation to sabotage the plant creating this liquid and to destroy what it had already stored. This mission would involve parachuting into the occupied area, rigging up radio equipment, skiing through snow and slush with explosives, and living off meager food rations. Then came the hard part. Another mission relayed in the book involved sinking a ferry that was transporting heavy water that had already been generated. Neal Bascomb, author of the award-winning book The Nazi Hunters, has penned yet another nonfiction book that reads like a spy thriller. Anyone who enjoys nonfiction, war stories, or suspense is sure to enjoy this outstanding work!
