When Mara's father comes home to Blackfeet territory with his non-native wife and their daughter, Mara feels like an outsider as she is shunned by her Blackfeet classmates: Loren, Brody, and Eli. Mara finally feels like perhaps Loren is warming up to her when Loren gives her a blanket during a ceremony honoring her missing sister, but shortly thereafter, a girl is discovered murdered in a nearby horse trailer, and Loren, Mara, Brody, and Eli become suspects since none of them has an alibi for the time of the murder. Through shifting points of view, family secrets come to light as the teens take it upon themselves to investigate and they begin to suspect each other. Author K.A. Cobell has crafted an intriguing mystery with multifaceted characters and believable dialog while shedding light on contemporary Native American issues such as murdered and missing indigenous women and drug abuse. This is a must-read for mystery lovers!
