When Mara's father comes home to Blackfeet territory with his non-native wife and their daughter, Mara feels like an outsider as she is shunned by her Blackfeet classmates: Loren, Brody, and Eli. Cobell has crafted an intriguing mystery with multifaceted characters and believable dialog while shedding light on contemporary Native American issues such as murdered and missing indigenous women and drug abuse.
