In 1964 Houston, a fifteen-year-old named Evie Barnes and her group of friends from "the wrong side of the tracks" enjoy hanging out, putting on too much make-up, and going on hot dates at the drive-in. They are also willing to do anything for each other. However, when Evie is rescued from a dangerous situation by a sweet, prim young lady whose family has money (aka a "tea sipper"), she finds herself questioning the stereotypes she's grown up with. She's also questioning the future that society envisions for her, that of a housewife like her older sister. This riveting novel about murder and the lengths people will go to in order to hide the truth contains plenty of drama and heartache, and is a perfect read for fans of S.E. Hinton's classic novel The Outsiders.
