If you've read The Illuminae Files series, then you know how amazingly talented Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff are when they team up to write books. Even if you don't ordinarily enjoy science fiction, their character-driven novels are filled with action, suspense, and humor. Thankfully, they're at it again with the Aurora Cycle series, the first installment of which is Aurora Rising. It begins when Aurora Jie-Lin O'Malley, a girl on her way to a new settlement on a distant planet is rescued by Tyler Jones who is just about to graduate from flight school as a squad leader. She's the only survivor on her ship, and that's not all that makes her special! When Tyler and his squad of misfits and admirers set out on their first mission, Aurora stows away in the cargo hold, and the mission quickly goes awry as they are pursued by those who see Aurora and her powers as a threat. Engaging writing from beginning to end makes this a must read for sci-fi fans. Don't have much time to sit and read? Then listen to the audiobook, which has a full cast and sound effects for your listening pleasure.
